Winter Break

Basically all of the assets and backgrounds I didn't get done this semester I'll have to do over the break or really this weekend. I calculated that starting the day we get out of school officially that if I make four scenes a day I will get done in time for Spring semester. When I say scenes I mean literal stills according to my Animatic which there are 100 of but they repeat a lot or it is a cut back and forth action. I only have a total of 22 different backgrounds that get repeated a lot over the whole Animatic. The only real problem I perceive is having to navigate around huge files and preventing my computer from freezing which I'll have to do is have each scene in a different After Effects file.

Final Class PResentation Outline

I felt that my presentation last time went pretty well minus a few hiccups with some terminology or statements. I'm still going to open with demo reel and talk throughout while it plays explaining where I've been. I'll first open with a basic introduction of who I am and where I'm from. I'll briefly mention about my childhood concerning my love of animation at an early age but mention specific television shows and movies and animators I still look to for inspiration. I'll then go into about themes in my work and the type of work I enjoy such as child-like fantasy with an adult edge. Then I'll go into my current BFA work with my Animatic and stills I have of character mock ups and backgrounds. I'll also include the one fully realized scene I have. Finally I'll end with my job research and how I got my current internship with Running Pony Productions and what kind of job I'm looking forward to having in the future.

Week 13: Tuesday

My progress on my BFA. I didn't reach the goal of having everything done for today but I got the big assets out of the way and now can focus on backgrounds.

Week 13: Thursday - New Calendar and BFA progress

Calendar:

BFA Progress

Honestly its not much and I failed to reach my deadline again. I wanted to have some backgrounds, Nerine's views and some of the Fish's views done. I ended up wasting so much time on trying to do Nerine's views that I just started the Fish's views. I wasn't being smart at all I did a similar mistake to last class by making assets in a very tedious process in Photoshop and then the y didn't even come out well. Nerine's feet are obviously still messed up and I need to fix them. I still plan on having my assets, character views and backgrounds done by Thanksgiving so I can start setup in After Effects. I will actually now really start in Illustrator and export to Photoshop and add textures in there. I will work all weekend but I think the way I'm doing it now is possible whereas what I was making a mistake doing, there was no way I'd finish in time. I realize I can't afford any more mistakes from this point forward or I won't finish. I need to be smarter and faster and actually really committing to utilizing this plan will be the only way I can achieve that.

Calendars:

BFA:

I unfortunately did not get near as much done as I wanted to this past weekend due to a combination of bad time management and letting process overwhelm and confuse me. I believe now I have found a solution but unfortunately I wasted a lot of precious time that could have been used much better. Now I'll just have to work double this coming weekend to reach the deadline before Thanksgiving. Hopefully since I now know how not to start making these assets, it'll hopefully go much faster. By using solely Photoshop and neglecting Illustrator I made the work load on myself much harder and more time consuming for assets that may only work in one scene because they became very pixelated. As of right now I have 4 backgrounds. I'm wondering if at this point I should forget the outline on most objects because it takes so long to draw the outline of each object after I've made it and then I'll still have to worry about the lines getting in the way of animating. I think it would save me some time if I thought about leaving them out (for the most part) from now on and relying on mostly colors to give definition. Or I could possibly try to salvage the line work from my Animatic and replace the stroke.

I haven't made the wave assets yet which would help a lot in terms of looking more finished.I also decided it would be better to make assets like the family portrait and fridge separately because they move and/or have more intense close up shots that would probably be better to make separate instead of trying to rely on scaling and unscaling and possbily damaging the pixels. Also having them separate allows more more control of animation and manipulation later.

Calenda Update

Week 12: Thursday - Stills for Portfolio and BFA Development

My subtly updated stills for BFA. I added another color with the lantern room since it was seen as all the same color. For the outside I moved around a lot of assets and hopefully the perspective isn't birds-eye-view to everyone still. I cuts down the grasses and added more rock to make it look higher elevated and moved back the addition part of the house so it wouldn't look like its hanging off the cliff. The entire composition has been up to put it more at ground level. The door has also been scaled down to not look as bulky and wide as before.
